Classic convertibles always provide the greatest response out of classic car show visitors when they walk by and peer into the topless wonders known as convertibles. I have even seen rough looking convertibles get great response.
I think it goes back to our youth, the feeling of freedom of riding a bicycle with the wind blowing through my hair. The idea of doing the same thing in a slick looking classic convertible elicits the same thrill. People just love to ride and drive a nice classic convertible.
Also without the coupe or sedan, a convertible automobile seems to just look hotter in most cases. Also think of it as a chick magnet, if you are single that is. Guys, listen up, women love convertibles!
Grab Some Attention!
Face it, a convertible in driving down the road will cause long looks of jealousy. People look at you when you drive a topless classic car.
What are Rag Tops?
The great thing about convertibles is that you have the option to roll up the top and the windows and get in out of the rain. In the old classic convertibles, these tops were called “ragtops.”
Rag tops of old had a harder time sealing out the rain but as the years went by, they got better and better at it. Still it is worth being able to ride with the wind in your hair to endure a few drops here and there, but I would check out a convertible cartop restorer if this were the case.
Buying Classic Convertibles
One of the best places to find vintage convertibles is BuyOldCars.com. Buy Old Cars has all kinds of convertibles from custom convertibles to the factory convertible and everything in between. You will love it.
Have A Great Time!
What can be more appealing than owning a convertible? Convertible classic cars, with their awesome looks, are much in demand in the market. For someone who is hoping to snag his own top-down, get you a classic convertible. You will love it!

The 1923 Silver Certificate is among the most popular and commonly collected paper notes. All United States Currency that was printed prior to 1928 is larger than that of a contemporary paper bill - approximately one-half inch wider and over one inch longer.
For you trivia buffs - the term ‘billfold’ came about because these large-size notes had to be folded several times to fit in a wallet! Because of its large size, the 1923 note was affectionately given the nicknames of ‘Horseblanket’ or ‘Saddelblanket.’ In fact, it was the last large-size certificate to be minted.
Once upon a time, silver certificates were one of the most desired and trustworthy of bank notes minted in the United States. These notes were actually backed by real silver and could be redeemed at the U.S. Treasury for silver dollar at any give time. In those days, a dollar had alot of buying power!
The front of the 1923 silver certificate features the familiar bust of George Washington. It also displays the blue Treasury seal that was engraved on all silver certificates printed during this time and an decorative ‘cogwheel’ reverse. Given the fragile nature and short life of paper money, only a very few of these extraordinary certificates exist today.
The value of these notes wholly depend upon the condition of the bill itself. Notes that saw average circulation would probably grade somewhere between EF (Extremely Fine) and VF (Very Fine). These certificates would have sharp corners, no tears, bright, unfaded colors and several folds. A lower quality note of F (Fine) to Fair would be worth less, of course.
If you are lucky to come into possession of a certificate in CU (Crisp Uncirculated or Uncirculated) condition with no folds, bends, creases, tears, etc., your value would be a great deal more than some of the listed prices that are found. Determining the condition or grade of paper currency is not a precise science. It’s very selective and each dealer has a different methodology as there’s no ‘official’ grading system.
Okay, so now that we understand a bit about grading, how much is this 1923 silver certificate worth, if anything? Well, according to the latest Red Book Price Guide, an uncirculated Blue Seal variety, signed by H.V. Spellman & Frank White or Walter O. Woods & White would be valued at $125.00. Even a low grade such as VG is currently valued at $35.00!

Everyone believes “their” markets are the “coolest” vintage toy markets, but most objective collectors agree on vintage Star Wars, vintage Transformers, vintage Hot Wheels, and vintage Pez. Out of all of these, Star Wars vintage toys are arguably among the most valuable individually, though with the plethora of Pez prototypes and variations on the market, Pez probablt have the edge when we’re looking at total collection valuation.
In 1977, Kenner produced the original line of twelve Star Wars action figures, and this entire line is extremely desirable to Star Wars enthusiasts, each netting over two thousand dollars if still in good condition and in their original packaging. The most valuable vintage toy is argued to be Vlix, a short-lived character who appeared in a Braziliam cartoon. Vlix nets well over six thousand dollars if in great condition.
Contributing to the valuation of these figures is the exclusivity of the license. For example, Kenner Canada, located in Ontario, held the license for Star Wars toys in Canada from 1977 until 1985, but only distributed about ten percent of the figures at that time. That, along with the fact that the Canadian lines were printed with bilingual packaging, adds a unique twist to those interested in the collectible value of Star Wars toys.
Another interesting collectible item available, but very hard to locate, are figure prototypes. Prototypes and test products are very common in other markets, e.g. the collectible Pez market, but much more rare in the Star Wars market.
While many current Star Wars fans are young, and because there has been a rush of new licenses released, these newer toys will likely never attain the valuations that existing vintage figures attained. For example, a new release features Star Wars toys that morph from characters like Darth Vader into objects like the Death Star. These Transformers figures mashups are hot right now, but supply is also high, removing one of the valuation factors from the equation.
There are also other foreign releases, with the Japanese Star Wars figures being very unique, and therefore, very desirable and very collectible. European toys are also popular and regularly confused with Canadian releases, due to their bilingual packaging. The easiest way to tell these releases apart is by viewing the address on the package, which will clearly indicate the country of origin.
With Star Wars toys, you have a killer movie franchise, a rabid fan base, opportunities to locate unique figures, and much heavier demand than supply. All of these factors lead many professional collectors to believe that Star Wars vintage action figures will retain their value for the long haul.
So dig in your attic, uncover that old AT-AT Walker or Landspeeder, and see if you have a collectible on your hands!
