Upgrading to a Collectible Display Case

by Eloise Felnickle

You could have the most beautiful collectible in the world. However, if it is collecting dust in your attic or packed away in a box in your basement, then what is the point. For those that are serious about their collection, there is simply no alternative to a quality collectible display case. A display case allows you to show off your most cherished items. So get ready to dust off you favorite collectibles and begin the search for a perfect collectible display case.

Choosing the Collectible Display Case

A collectible display case can do wonders for your collection. However, you don’t want to run out and buy the first display case you find. You will first want to decide how much you are willing to spend on a display case. Once you have a budget in mind, you can begin searching for a collectible display case that will go well with your collection.

It might be a good idea to set your collection out and measure how much room it takes. This way you will have an idea of how big your display case needs to be. If you buy a huge display case, then your collection will appear insignificant and incomplete. A display case that is too small will either not hold your entire collection, or your collectibles will appear cramped and crowded.

Not long ago, choices of materials were limited. However, today the collectible display case can be made from a large variety of materials. You might want to choose an antique wooden display case or perhaps you prefer a modern glass case. The choice is yours. Just be sure your case integrates well with your collection.

Care must be taken when choosing the right kind of case. Some materials might compliment your collection well. Other materials might detract from you collection. You never want your collectible display case to fight with your collection for attention. Instead it should compliment your collection.

Choose the right collectible display case and you will have a focal point in your room. The display case should draw a person’s eyes right to the collection. Some collectors purposely choose a more modest looking display case for their most valuable items. If you have extremely valuable items then you may not want to draw too much attention to them. Some believe this will help detract thieves.

Don’t worry if you can’t seem to find the right collectible display case. Take your time and enjoy the hunt. Eventually you will find a case within your budget that is simply perfect for your particular collection. If you can’t find one locally then you might consider searching the internet.

Collecting Christmas Nutcrackers and Family Traditions

by Rudy C. Forrester

Every year at Christmas my mother would always look forward to receiving a new Christmas Nutcracker as a gift. The family would gather together around the fireplace, and we’d all laugh at some of the silly gifts that we’d all receive.

What exactly is a Christmas nutcracker? As the name suggests, these things are actually used to crack nuts open. Its history can date back to as early as 15th century. But these nutcrackers aren’t your normal crack-me-opens; these are wood carvings of soldiers, knights, kings and many other things which have levers which open the soldiers mouth, where you can place the nut to crack it open.

Today’s modern nutcrackers of course only offer decoration. But they have become a Christmas tradition in both Europe and the US. It’s very popular in Germany to collect nutcrackers, as this is where they originated. Collecting Christmas Nutcrackers appeals to children and adults alike.

Adults perhaps remember their childhood whenever they see these nutcrackers; sipping a hot cocoa by the fireplace and listening to Christmas carols while Grandma argued with Grandpa who kept on using her favorite nutcracker. These are common scenes which you probably remember when you see a nutcracker.

Today, nutcrackers that are collected are for decoration only, and have no real useful function. There are so many different type of Christmas Nutcrackers; designs range from trees and cars to Santa Clause and Kings, even movie characters. There is quite a wide variety of choices on the market.

Some of the more well known collectibles are made by Ulbricht and Steinbach. These nutcrackers are definitely considered collectors items, and there are quite a few antiques as well. They are produced as limited editions, and will be signed.

There are so many original nutcrackers on the market today; you can find nutcracker sets, nutcracker series, even nutcrackers that light up or make sounds. No matter what kind of nutcracker you have it will always bring back special memories of the Christmas that it represents. Christmas Nutcrackers always bring back warm memories.

The Potential of Collectible Cookie Jars

by Eloise Felnickle

Do you remember when you were a kid? Was there anything better than homemade cookies? I remember how excited I felt when I entered the kitchen to find a cookie jar full to the brim with freshly baked cookies. I was lucky enough to help my grandmother bake cookies on a regular basis. Even today reaching into a cookie jar makes me feel like a kid again.

Collectible Cookie Jars Make Perfect Storage

When I was a child, the house often smelled of oven-fresh cookies. Those cookies that weren’t gobbled up right away were stored in a beautiful glass cookie jar. My grandmother did most of the baking, so after she passed away we rarely had homemade cookies. Fortunately, my parents continued to satisfy my sweet tooth by purchasing tins of store-bought cookies. After some time, my mother discovered that we had acquired a surprising number of cookie jars and tins. In fact, we had nearly fifty of them.

My mom set our many cookie jars aside for recycling. However, I thought these jars and tins were beautiful and I wanted to keep them. My parents allowed it, and these became the first of my many collectible cookie jars. I now had a new purpose in life. I decided to add to my collection every chance I got. Soon my relatives began donating collectible cookie jars to me. My collection grew every month.

Over time my collection grew. I had so many collectible cookie jars that there was no longer room for them in by bedroom. My father decided to build me a large display case so that my collection could continue to grow. Soon I had several hundred different collectible cookie jars. They were made of an wide assortment of materials. I had cookie jars made of paper, cardboard, tin, and glass.

I became well know throughout my neighborhood and school. My schoolmates and neighbors wanted to see my huge collection of cookie jars. My relatives would visit to see it too. Eventually people offered to buy the occasional cookie jar from me. It turns out that they made the perfect gift boxes. People would buy them for all sorts of things. There were perfect for holding trinkets or special objects. Most of them were used to hold Christmas or birthday gifts.

Suddenly my collectible cookie jars started making me money. Through the sales of my jars, I began making hundreds of dollars. This gave me an idea. I decided to start selling gift boxes. I already had an amazing collection of different gift boxes. Soon I started selling even more. Before long I had my own small business.

House M.D.’ Season 5 on DVD

by Jason Myer

The reviews are mixed for Season 5 of House, M.D., which is now out on DVD. Whether they liked Season 5 or not, fans of the program concur that it was unique. For instance, Cameron and Chase were not included as regularly, and some audience members felt that the season was more melodramatic than other seasons.

Those that enjoyed Season 5 say that the season connects with the viewers better than in earlier episodes, and that the fan learns more about how House’s is impacted by his mental demons. The overriding sentiment is that as long as Hugh Laurie is in the show it will continue to be a top rated, smart television program. Even physicians who watch the show say that despite its sometimes overblown presentation, the show is very engrossing and does give the audience an idea of the processes a doctor goes through when contemplating a difficult diagnosis.

Fans who were a little disappointed by House M.D. Season 5 say that the writing varies in quality: the season commences strongly, goes through some less exciting episodes in the middle, then gets better during the last third of the season. An element that did not entertain many fans was what they believed to be an obvious and hokey way of hinting at a P.I. spinoff series by utilizing a character that was not essential to the season. Other objections were that the storylines were less enthralling and that inconsistent writing prompted House’s trademark biting humor to cross the line into unnecessary shock value sometimes.

The 24 episodes making up Season 5 allow personal and workplace boundaries to shift repeatedly among the main characters. Guest appearances in Season 5 include eljko Ivanek, Mos Def, and Carl Reiner. The DVD collection includes extras covering changes in Dr. Cuddy’s life, how the program is cast, and the level of veracity in the plots. The collection also contains a 100th episode appreciation, and comments for the episode about the patient with the “locked-in syndrome.”

Between those viewers who were enthusiastic about Season 5 and those who were more critical, the vast majority say they still are entertained by the show very much and are happily awaiting House, M.D., Season 6.

Why You Need A Battle Ready Sword

by Sky Borg

A number of people collect a range of medieval weapons, from swords and spears to armor and shields. And for serious collectors, battle ready swords can be the item that makes the collection something special. They are made to be functional, and still look good enough to display in a home.

So what makes battle ready swords so popular? Simply put, the craftsmanship found in these swords is unparalleled. Many people have taken the time to develop their skills so that swords not only look great, but are completely function for battle use.

We also cannot deny that apart from being luxurious, these swords are being made with high quality materials that will last for a very long time. Keep in mind that a sword has to be long lasting and they have carried over the tradition of making high quality swords no matter how modern our world is today.

There are some simple procedures to help any collector maintain the appearance and prevent rust from forming. In addition to just taking care of the sword, you want to make sure that you are not abusing the sword by hitting the edges against hard objects. Not only will you damage the edge, but even a hairline crack can eventually turn into something that may break the sword.

These swords are made of high quality steel with high amounts of carbon. Improper care of a sword like this is going to result in rust. And if there is rust, the ‘first aid” that we are using is WD-40. However, it is still not advisable to use this anti-corrosion liquid because instead of removing the rust it will act as a catalyst that will speed up corrosion on the sword.

Then, when you need to store your battle ready swords, you should not keep it in a sheath or scabbard. This will hold moisture against the blade and cause rust to form. You’ll never know it’s happening either, until it is too late.

There are some specific cleaning materials that you can use to help keep the blade oiled, and clean. Follow the instructions that come with your sword to maintain its appearance for years to come. You sword will come with instructions on proper cleaning care, it may also include proper leather conditioner, wax and such.

Battle ready swords in your collection can make you feel like you have a small part of history. Medieval weapons like these can be a great addition to any collection and make you feel like you are part of an age gone by.
