History of Airplanes
The idea of flying has sparked the imagination of mankind for centuries or even millennia. The first man-made flying objects were not airplanes but kites; records of kite flying date back as early to 200 B.C. in China, and rudimentary hot air balloons were first designed about the same time. Leonardo da Vinci famously designed several aircraft in the fifteenth century, but never tried to construct or fly them.
All of the aircraft that were shown to work up to the eighteenth and mid nineteenth centuries were lighter than air, a significant difference from the heavier-than-air aircraft that would be developed in the twentieth century. Important mechanisms that would later be used for propelling and controlling aircraft were developed during this period, even if the overall designs themselves were flawed and unsuccessful.
By the close of the nineteenth century, the idea of flying had captured the attention of the world, and multiple aviation pioneers built various aircraft that managed to become airborne, if even just for a second or two, predating the Wright Brothers’ famous flight by up to 30 years. Multiple pioneers were working on both lighter-than-air and heavier-than-air aircraft concurrently, using hundreds of imaginative designs with varying degrees of success. Gustave Whitehead, for example, reportedly flew his engine-powered, heavier-than-air design for a distance of 800 meters at 15 meters height as early as 1901 or 1902, preceding the Wright Brothers’ famous flight at Kitty Hawk by more than two years. Other inventors also claimed to have achieved flight between 1900 and 1910. By the early twentieth century, advancements both in engine technology and the understanding of aerodynamics made powered, controllable flight possible.
The Wright Brothers began working with gliders and other unpowered flight methods around the turn of the century, and are widely recognized to have the first sustained, controlled, and powered flight of a heavier-than-air aircraft flown by a pilot, accomplishing this feat near Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, in 1903. By 1905, their airplane designs could be flown for upwards of 40 minutes or 30 miles in a single flight. The development of aircraft grew exponentially as a response to World War I, during which time aircraft were used for military flights, including both reconnaissance flights and the world’s first fighter planes.
Development of the jet engine began in the 1930s, mainly in Germany and in England. Both countries would have working jet aircraft by the end of World War II. After the war, the aircraft industry turned towards the civilian market, considered the dawn of what would be known as the jet age. The first commercial jet airliners were put into service by the end of the 1940s. Regular jet service was available by the mid 1950s, ushering in the age of mass commercial air travel.
By the start of the 1960s, aircraft were no longer restricted to flights beginning and ending on land, as the first space flights became possible and the space race began. Russia’s Sputnik 1, launched in 1957, started a new era of flight, culminating in the first manned moon landing in 1969.

Jamaica Weather Conditions
The Jamaica Weather conditions are incredibly beautiful, no wonder why the island is an all year vacation paradise. The storms more often than not form between the eastern Caribbean coast and West African coast line. These weather disturbances have the tendency to trek in a north westerly direction. Jamaica is situated on the western end of the Caribbean Sea. Fortunately, by the storms get closer they are already too far north to pose any serious concerns. Another important factor also is the size of Jamaica. The smaller the target the harder it is to hit. This is evident in the many times Cuba and Florida have suffered. ? The most recent direct assault Jamaica had was hurricane Gilbert in 1988 and the previous one was hurricane Charley in 1951. Another reason not to panic is that with the present technology which is available there is ample warning if there is any significant development. I can assure you there will be sufficient time to get out of the way safely.

Jamaica – A Land Rich in Natural Treasures
On the southern slopes of the Jamaican Blue Mountains reside several million tons of gypsum. Used primarily in cement production and building materials, gypsum is an extremely common mineral. Many homeowners will be familiar with gypsum, as it is used in drywall. Gypsum has many other uses, including lawn fertilizer, blackboard chalk, and as a coagulant for tofu. Since it is also used to create cement, some of Jamaica’s local gypsum no doubt finds its way into one of the many all inclusive resorts in Jamaica. Just like some of the other industries in Jamaica, gypsum mining is not very exciting, and certainly doesn’t get your pulse up like some of the premier clubs around the island. But it is also industry like this that creates the backbone for Jamaica, and helps create jobs for its inhabitants and encourages trade among other countries.
While agriculture is not as large in Jamaica as in some other countries, it does supply a good deal of jobs. Workers are needed for the cultivation of a wide variety of crops. These crops include pumpkins, carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, onion, papaya, pineapple, watermelon, corn, rice, yams, potatoes, and plantains. Sugar is the leading export crop, and a good deal of coffee and cocoa are also produced. This lasted until 1655, when British forces seized control of the island. Needing a source of labor for sugar and coffee cultivation, the British brought African slaves to Jamaica. Despite numerous slave rebellions and uprisings, this period lasted for nearly 150 years, until the abolition of slavery in 1834. For those that visit Jamaica for a Caribbean beach wedding, it’s hard to believe that at one time this beautiful country participated in the slave trade. Thankfully those days are long past, and all that remains are good times, good food, and good people.

Arawaks Before the Arrival of Columbus
The history of Jamaica started long before the arrival of Columbus in 1494. Jamaica island was inhabited by Arawaks for hundreds of years or even more. They lived a simple life in small community based on fishing, hunting, and small scale cultivation. The arrival of Spanish led by Columbus opened the door of the island to the world, but the economic activities also brought new diseases that destroyed native Arawaks small communities in a few decades. The trace of early Arawaks life, today, can only be seen in a few artifacts-facts displayed at the small museum at White Marl.
The Spanish Occupation
Between 1494 and1655, the Spanish used Jamaica as a springboard for the conquest of the Americas. The island was occupied by of the Spanish settlement and their slaves. In 1655, it was captured by the British expedition led by Admirals Penn and Venables. The influence of the Spanish settlement on the development of social, economic and political life of the island was insignificant apart from remnants of buildings on the Island – Spanish colonial architectural styles, and names of places etc.. The island was not of significance for Spanish at the time.
The Slave Economy
A few years after capturing the island, the British imported African slaves on large scale for sugar plantations. Unlike the occupation by the Spanish, Jamaica brought prosperity to the English plantation owners and many English cities. Plantation dominated economic, political and religious life on the Island. The laws supported the slave system as well. In 1838, the slaves were freed and the plantations started paying wages to its workers. After Emancipation, many of the ex-slaves settled down and cultivated as small farmers in the mountains. As the decline of sugar exportation, they began the exports of logwood, coffee, and bananas.
The Independence and Decolonization
The movement for independence was the reaction to the economic crisis spawned by the Great Depression. In 1938, two major political parties, and the labor unions affiliated to them combined efforts in fighting for political independence from England. By 1962, Jamaica was granted political independence.
Political Independence
After the political independence, Jamaica was governed by a prime minister, who is required to consult with the Governor General who was the representative of England. PNP and JLP are two major political parties in Jamaica today. The PNP, the held political office and initiated a shift in major economic policies between 1972 and 1980. From 1980 to 1989, the JLP held political office. With a special political relationship with the Reagan administration, Jamaica benefited from generous USA assistance in the first half of the decade. The prosperity of Jamaica was further fueled by the large volumes of emigrants started in the eighties also saw , primarily to the USA.
Jamaica Today
The size of 4,000 sq miles makes Jamaica the third largest island in the Caribbean. The capital of Jamaica Kingston is where most activities are centered. Airsoft Safety
First, I would like to say that the amount of bad things that arise from airsoft guns are incredibly low (less than 1%), proportionally to the entertainment derived from the use of the product. I am a firm believer in not ruining something for good people just because of malicious activity from the bad.
Now, I’ll come right out and say it; if you are not careful with an airsoft gun, somebody could get hurt. We’ve all heard of kids getting shot by cops because they were not careful enough. Some people use airsoft guns to rob stores and threaten people. You might be wondering why an airsoft vendor would point out the negative aspects of the product.
The amount of injuries that come from airsoft is much lower than it was twenty years ago. In fact, the injury rate is less than that of golf! Still, people still get hurt. Most injuries are face related, and that is why it is important to always wear a face mask when playing airsoft. A cup wouldn’t hurt either; it’s not necessary, but it would spare you a lot of pain.
Another thing people sometimes forget is that airsoft guns are not toys. You need to treat an airsoft gun as a real gun, except when playing airsoft, of course. Never shoot somebody if you are not playing airsoft. Some people think it’s okay because it only stings for a second, but not only can being careless lead to a serious injury, but it is just plain mean to shoot someone if they are not ready.
True story: The first time I took my friend paintballing (surprisingly, I play paintball more than airsoft), he acted like an idiot. We were walking to the field, and he shot me in the foot. It didn’t hurt, so I wasn’t mad, but then he really angered me. He shot me in the back, and I started to yell at him, and he shot me again! I started to run, and he kept shooting, and I kept getting hit. In that second, I had an incredible hate toward him, incredible. My friend thought of the paintball gun as a toy. After the incident, well, let’s just say he’ll never shoot me unexpectedly again. However, one time during a battle, he did shoot himself in the hand accidentally, which halted the game for about ten minutes. What’s the point of this? Accidents can happen.
As long as you are careful, accidents won’t happen. With all I have described, you’d expect airsoft to be a dangerous thing, but it isn’t. Hardly anybody uses airsoft guns maliciously, 99% of people play safely with airsoft guns (and those who don’t do not usually get hurt, although they deserve to), and with the recent advancements in airsoft technology, the sport is becoming increasingly popular and exciting. I wrote this article because I want people to have fun and be safe with my products. Do not be discouraged by this article, in fact, be encouraged. As I said, the rate of injury is INCREDIBLY low with airsoft, and the chances of anything going wrong are improbable. But if you become too comfortable, something could go wrong, and that’s something you don’t want to deal with.
I hope I didn’t scare you off from buying a gun! I can sum this article up in two words: Be careful. You already knew that anyway, right? I just wanted to elaborate, extensively, on that little phrase for your reading pleasure.
